Shallot

Shallots are an easy to grow vegetable with a distinctive flavour, they are really delicious when put whole into a casserole in the winter months.

How To Grow

Shallots can be sown from seed, but sets are quicker to mature, are better in colder regions, less likely to be attacked by some pests and diseases and need less skill to grow than seed. Press the sets into the soil so that the tops are just peeking above the soil, being careful not to damage the root system at the base of the bulb.

How/When To Harvesting

Shallots are ready to harvest when the foliage starts to turn yellow, lift the clusters gently out of the soil.
