Squash

Squashes, like marrows, courgettes and pumpkins all belong to the gourd family.

How To Grow

Can be grown indoors. Place 2 seeds in a 5cm pot, cover with 2cm of compost, water and when the first pair of true leaves have formed and there is no chance of frosts they can be planted out as for outdoor sowing. For outdoor sowing dig a hole 30 cms deep, sow three seeds at about 2.5 cms apart at the centre of each hole. When the first true leaves have appeared, thin out to leave the strongest seedling. Make sure to water well and protect against slugs.

How/When To Harvesting

Harvest in September or October when the squashes have turned light brown in colour. They can be stored for months in a cool dry place.
